La Verità (The Truth) was written in the summer of 2011 when I realised that few people in Italy knew about the banking crisis in Iceland and how the Icelandic Government dealt with it. We were all thrown into a massive recession, and none of the countries involved had done anything to hold the banks accountable.
I felt Iceland’s example, with all its flaws and imperfections, was exceptional in putting people first in a world of politics and finance where people are always paying for others’ mistakes or greed.
The song is an invitation for people to find out more, and to see another point of view.
This story made me think that, despite what is happening in most countries, people’s happiness can still be seen as the first priority of a Government, as it should be. Click here to find out more.
Angeli (Angels) is a song about respect for the dignity of life. It is, at the same time, simple yet with depth. It occurred to me that violence and indifference are the two main weapons normally used to stamp on human beings and reduce them to being treated as a means to an end, dehumanising them.
The message is that we are all born to be spectacular, mighty, beautiful angels, and from when we are born we are entitled to experience respect and love.
Until a society that upholds these values becomes the norm we need to fight, as Gandhi said, to be the change we want to see.
